Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay

ELISA were first developed in the early 1970's as a replacement for radioimmunoassays. They remain in wide use in their original format and in expanded formats with modifications that allow for multiple analytes per well, highly sensitive readouts, and direct cell-based output.

ELISA is a popular format of "wet-lab" type analytic biochemistry assay that uses a solid-phase Enzyme Immuno Assay (EIA) to detect the presence of a substance, usually an antigen, in a liquid sample or wet sample.
