Emerging Infectious Diseases

Emerging Infectious Diseases are caused by newly identified species or strains that may have evolved from a known infection or spread to a new population or area undergoing an ecologic transformation, or be reemerging infections, like drug-resistant tuberculosis. The incidence of emerging infectious disease has increased in the past 20 years. These are a significant burden on global economies and public health.
