Abstract:

The specialty of endodontics has evolved over the years like many other dental and medical specialties. The changes that have occurred in the last 10 years, however, have been of great extent and profundity. Progress in any field can only be achieved by altering the old beliefs, concepts and attitude and moving forward. Single-visit endodontics is not a new concept in a clinical practice. However, clinicians are still confused to decide as to which root canal treatment option is better in between single or multi-visits endodontics. Nowadays single-visit endodontics is considered a good alternative due to the advancements of the theories, new generation of instruments and techniques of modern nonsurgical endodontics. The use of microscope, nickel-titanium rotary file systems, electronic apex locators, ultrasonics and newer obturation systems have profoundly changed the traditional endodontic practice. This presentation highlights the guidelines and criteria for single-visit endodontics and also emphasizes the evidence based practice for single-visit endodontic therapy in the clinic to achieve predictably successful outcome.
