Evaluation of patentability of innovations and research in key areas of food biotechnology

Abstract:

BiotechnologyThe present study relates to delineating the innovative research in the key areas of Food Biotechnology and determining the patentability criteria for such identified areas of innovative research in food biotechnology. The study involves identification of the main areas of the research being conducted in the realm of food biotechnology based on literature review. Broadly these areas may be enumerated as : food microbiology, food technology, food biochemistry and applications of food biotechnology.The study in the next phase focuses on determining the criteria which establish the case for an innovation to be construed as a fit one for the grant of patentability in accordance with the legal provisions. In this phase attention has also been devoted to giving a brief insight into the existing prominent patent law systems of the world.The next phase comprises of an in-depth compilation of the patented innovations and inventions in the identified key areas of food biotechnology, based on a review of the major patent databases of the World. The concluding phase of the study attempts to throw some light on the significance of patented innovations of food biotechnology in terms of technology transfer and commercialization of same on a futuristic course, so as to lay down the foundation for these patented innovations to serve as effective revenue generating model for the researchers.

Biography :

Rajneesh Kumar Sharma, holds a Masters Degree in Biotechnology from the prestigious G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. His Master’s thesis work was on the isolation and characterization of plasmids from therapeutically important strains of Lactaobacillus acidophilus. He has to his credit one international publication from the thesis work. As a matter of interest he moved on to the field of law to pursue a law degree program from the highly acclaimed Canning College and specialized in the Patent Law. Currently, Rajneesh is a qualified Research Scholar [PhD] program at the Department of Biotechnology, in Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science Technology Murthal (Sonepat) Haryana 131039 India.
