Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to identify Entrepreneurial Skills Required by Secondary School Graduates in Sorghum Processing Technology for poverty alleviation in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria. Three research questions and hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted survey research design and it was carried out in Nigeria. The population for the study was 221 made up of 131 teachers of agricultural science, 47 agricultural extension agents and 43 sorghum processors. The study was not sampled because of its manageable size and therefore, the entire population was adopted. The instrument for data collection was a 29 entrepreneurial skills structure questionnaire which was face validated by three experts: two from the Department of Agricultural Education University of Nigeria Nsukka and one from the Department of Crop production Federal University of Technology, Minna. Cronbac???h alpha method was used to determine the internal consistency of the questionnaire items. A reliability coefficient of 0.89 was obtained, Two-hundred and twenty-one (221) copies of the questionnaire were distributed to the respondents with the help of 12 research assistants. The copies of the questionnaire were retrieved and analyzed using weighted mean to answer the research questions and standard deviation to determine the spread of the respondents while the hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics. It was found out that all the 29 entrepreneurial skills identified in Sorghum grain processing technology were required by secondary school graduates. It was also found out that from the hypotheses tested that there is no significant difference in the responses of teachers of Agricultural Science and Agricultural Extension agents on the 29 entrepreneurial skills in Sorghum processing technology. The study therefore, recommends that the twenty-nine (29) identified entrepreneurial skills be packaged into a Programme and used to train secondary school graduates and other interested individuals in Sorghum processing technology for poverty alleviation in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
