Congenital absence of rib is relatively rare and the absence of superior anterior ribs was undocumented so far. A full-term Chinese male infant was found with superior left chest collapsed after birth. Specific clinical examinations have been done to exclude other possible complications. Physical palpation found the skin and subcutaneous tissue on the affected site was intact. X-ray showed narrowed intercostal space on the affected site with unaffected lungs. 3D-CT reconstruction images exhibited the absence of the superior anterior 2nd-4th ribs. Ultrasound and echocardiography demonstrated no other special complications. Simple congenital continuous absence of the multiple superior anterior ribs is confirmed by the manifestation and imaging results. Moreover, the prognosis of this malformation could be favorable.
