Abstract:

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are injuries, pain or disorders of the muscles, nerves, tendons, joints, cartilage, neck and spinal discs. It can affect the bones, muscles or tendons, which could lead to a difficult life style and impaired movement. All the current known treatments of MSDs have challenges and other side effects, like long term use of steroids can cause more harm to body than it do any good to treat MSD. These focus on the pain reduction with no long term cure for the disorders. Beliefs and attitudes about disease/illness have an impact on adherence to treatment since it predicts adherence towards medications more strongly than sociodemographic or clinical factors. There is not much information regarding the medication beliefs held by people suffering with MSD. Therefore, a pilot study was undertaken to investigate beliefs about medications held by people with MSD based on the cross-sectional questionnaire survey of people with MSD in Delhi Zone (India). The survey focused on the factors related to these specific medication beliefs, and whether these beliefs influence adherence. The study may identify people at risk of poor adherence and hence providing opportunities to improve adherence in context with people suffering with MSD in India.
