Li-Na Wei
Professor, Department of Pharmacology
University of Minnesota, USA

Biography

Li-Na Wei received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from Texas Tech University Health Science Center at Lubbock, and post-doctoral training from Medicine/Microbiology at Columbia University at New York. She joined the faculty of Dept. Pharmacology at University of Minnesota Medical School as an Assistant Professor, rose to the rank of Full Professor, and was named Distinguished McKnight University Professor of the University of Minnesota. She has organized several international meetings including FASEB conferences on Retinoid, and INRC, and is in editorial board for Nature Publishing group Molecular Page, Adipocyte, J. Exp. Pharmacology, and Gene Regulation & System Biology.

Research Interest

Research interest in her lab focuses on transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene/protein expression in neurons and embryonic stem cells, and in cellular differentiation processes of neurons and adipocytes. The experimental models examine specific functional roles of RIP140, orphan nuclear receptors and opioid receptors in the development of metabolic diseases as well as neurological disorders. The ultimate goal is to understand the integration of various biological processes occurred in different sub-cellular compartments through the action of specific regulators and signaling pathways in the context of functional cells and in whole animals.
