Margaret Sewell

Biography

Margaret C. Sewell is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and the Director of the Outreach, Recruitment and Education Core of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC).  She is also the Director of the Memory Enhancement Program, a series of memory wellness seminars that targets healthy elders.  Dr. Sewell, a clinical neuropsychologist, has extensive experience in neuropsychological evaluation, curriculum development, and training for research cognitive testing.  She has developed the standardized certification process for coordinators and trainees in the ADRC, and has assisted in the design of cognitive testing batteries and conducted the training for several grants at Mount Sinai. Dr. Sewell has significant teaching experience and co-directs the college summer internship program in the ADRC.  She also has extensive experience lecturing to the lay public, trainees and healthcare professionals regarding dementia diagnosis, treatment and research, as well as developing written, web-based and newsletters materials for wide circulation.  Dr. Sewell conducts research in the areas of neuropsychological testing and barriers to research participation.  Dr. Sewell received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from New York University (1996) and was Chief Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell Medical Center where her research concerned treatment adherence and cognitive performance in those with HIV illness.  She also maintains a neuropsychological testing and psychotherapy practice.
