Biography
Dr. Wilson Parawira is Professor of Biotechnology at the Bindura University of Science Education, Kigali Institute of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe. He obtained his PhD in Environmental Biotechnology from Lund University in Sweden in 2004. He did his first postdoctoral research fellowship in 2008 at Lund University in Anaerobic Digestion and his second postdoctoral research fellowship in in Fermentation Process Development in Departments of Process Engineering and Microbiology, University of Stellenbosch in 2009. Professor Parawira joined the University of Zimbabwe as a Lecturer in 1999 and was promoted to Senior lecturer in 2008. He was the Head of the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Family Sciences at the University of Zimbabwe from 2005to 2007. He was an Associate Professor (Microbiology and Biotechnology) and Head of Department of Applied Biology at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) now College of Science and Technology under University of Rwanda in 2010 to 2012. He was also the Acting Director of Research at KIST from 2011 to 2012. Currently, Professor Parawira is the Executive Dean of Faculty of Science at Bindura University of Science Education since August 2012. During his academic career, has written 33 scientific articles and three book chapters and supervised 8 MSc and PhD students and serves on three scientific journals. Dr.Wilson Parawira research interests are in environmental biotechnology; biofuels; food microbiology and science, engineering, technology and innovation policies and their effectiveness.
