Biography
Director of the Institute for Multiphase Processes, Leibniz Universitaet Hannover since 2006; until 2005 head of the Department of Cryobiology & Biomaterials of the Institute for Biomedical Technologies ⎮ Helmholtz-Institute for Biomedical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, Germany; lecturer for Process Engineering, Biomedical Process Engineering, Biomaterials and Biocompatibility, Cryotechnology, and Implant Technology.
Research Interest
Interdisciplinary biomedical research projects in the field of heart valve prostheses, cell & tissue cryopreservation, biothermodynamics, functional tissue engineering and bioreactors, biomaterials, cardiovascular & soft tissue implants (e.g. calcification of implants, alternative materials for heart valve prostheses and hemocompatibility; scaffolds via electrospinning, mechanotransduction, visualization techniques; ice nucleation induced by electrofreezing; optimization of freezing protocols of different cell and tissue types, development of freezing devices; explant analysis of silicone mamma prostheses; development of bioreactor systems for controlled & improved cell seeding of TE-biohybrids, cryopreservation of TE-biohybrids).
