White blood cells are an important part of the immune system and to defense against infectious organisms and foreign substances. White blood cells are also called white corpuscle or leukocytes. White blood cells defend the body adequately.

White blood cells are an important component of the blood system, which is also made up of red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. White blood cells are produced in the bone marrow stored in your blood cell and lymphatic tissues. White blood cells develop stem (precursor) cells that mature into one of the five major types of white blood cells called Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, and Basophils.
