Abstract:

Dental stem cells like all other types of stem cells are undifferentiated cells which means, they have no any tissue-specific construction. Dental Stem cells are kind of multipotent cells which mean this type of unique cells can differentiation into the different type??s cell from all organs; and they have the Self-renewal potential which means they can produce the exact same cells to conserve the interminable of the resource. Dental Stem cells are easily accessible and lower tendency to malignancy than other types of stem cells. There are two types of stem cells; Embryonic Stem Cells and Adult Stem Cells. Dental Stem Cells are one of the significant types of Adult Stem cells and originated and isolated from different oral and maxillofacial area. These stem cells characterized according their source; the most important categories are Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) which originate from tooth pulp and can producing ectopic dentin in the immunocompromized mice, Stem cells from exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) which isolated from deciduous teeth, Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) which originate from periodontal ligament, Stem cells from apical papilla (SCAP) which originate from apical papilla and capable to form odontoblast like cells and Dental follicle progenitor cells (DFPCs) which originate from dental follicle. The advantages of various types of Dental Stem Cells are; high plasticity, Perfect for stem cell banking (cryopreserved for long time), acceptable interaction with growth factors and etc. these cells can be used for bone repair, salivary glands repair, teeth regeneration and etc.
