Abstract:

Adequate quality and volume of bone is a pre-requisite for the long term success of implant supported prostheses. In the edentulous posterior maxilla, the maxillary sinus frequently posses anatomicaland pathological restrictions. Augmentation of the anatomy of the resorbed sinus may enable successful implant placement. This surgical procedure - Sinus Lift/Sinus Floor Elevation ? may be performed by two basic techniques: Sinus floor elevation through the lateral wall of the maxilla (Caldwell-Lucprocedure) and through a crestal approach (Percrestal Procedure). The different techniques of Percrestal Sinus Lift will be presented, including the Osteotom, the Balloon and the Hydraulic procedures. The rational, advantages and limitations of each technique will be discussed, and their qualities will be compared with the Caldwell-Lucprocedureas well as between one another.
