Abstract:

This lecture will provide information about the rational use of antibiotics as part of sole or adjunctive treatment in cases of periodontal disease. Th e proper time of antibiotic prescription will also be discussed. Types of antimicrobials currently used as an adjunctive management of periodontal conditions will be presented. What type of periodontitis may be treated with adjunct systemic antibiotics? I will also discuss the use of antimicrobials, in acute periodontal conditions (acute periodontal abscess and acute necrotizing conditions).
