Abstract:

Objective: Authors describe a new orthodontic lingual technique (active retainer) without brackets that increase patient?s tolerance with a better hygienic control and easier public relations.We started in 2005 with the alignment of the social six from 3 to 3 in the lower arch before, and then in the upper arch, so we arrived to treat both the archs including premolars and molars by using mushrooms wires (advanced active retainer). Two years ago we hadthought about the substitution of mushrooms wires with straight wires. So ADA wire was born. ADA wire goes on lingual surface from 3 to 3 and then on occlusal surface of premolars and molars without offset between canine and first premolar. This way we have transformed the active retainer in a complete very straightwirelingual technique. Materials and methods: We use onlynickel titanium round wires 0.14 and 0.16, wax and fluid composite. The wire properly waxed is directly bonded on the lingual surface of the teeth without brackets. It slides into the fluid composite on lingual surfaces from 3 to 3, and then goes inside the bite rising on the occlusal surfaces of premolars and molars.So the archform we use is the straight oval form. We have treated 58 cases of crowding in upper and lower arch, and we have observedfor a time ranging from 3 to 12 months. Results: The alignment by ADA wire is very effective and fast in all the situations, but the realstrength lies in thefinishing, because it arrives where the conventional lingua technique with brackets doesn?t arrive, the small details. During the treatmentswe have seenseveralopenspacesbetween the teeththat we thenproperlyclosedwithsteel wireswithloops. Conclusion: ADAwire makes simpler the alignment of the teeth because we have a very straightwire technique without brackets, without offset and without any loop on wire. ADA wire makes faster the alignment because slides inside the bite rising withoutocclusal interferences. ADA wire is a very suitable technique for any patient with high level of comfort for the tongue (because bracketless), immediate good speaking, and it is very simply to clean.ADA wire is easy to bond and a very cheap technique for the orthodontist but we don?t have a very 3d control of the tooth movement.
