Abstract:

Objectives: To assess the retrospective systemic diseases profile of patients, oral hygiene practices and attendance pattern of patients from IAU CoD. Materials & Methods: Seven years (2009-2015) review of 1434 patients�?? charts for medical conditions, oral hygiene practices, reasons to attend the facility, attendance pattern and smoking habits were studied. Results: 936 male and 498 female subjects�?? charts were reviewed. The age ranged between 30-50 years. 33.2% of the male and 37.4% of female patients had a medical condition. The most prevalent disease was diabetes mellitus, 102 (7.11%), hypertension 94 (6.5 %), arthritis 87 (6.1%), ENT problems 55 (3.8%), asthma 47 (3.3%) among patients. Cigarettes smoking were common among males (24.7%) and females (3.2%). Number of cigarettes per day was 16-20. 65% of the males and 75% of females brush their teeth 1-2 daily and 11.6% of the males 14.9% of the females floss their teeth daily. Restorative and periodontal treatment needs were common. Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus was the most common medical condition. Females reported higher unmet treatment needs. Smoking was common in males. Oral hygiene practices were more common among females. Fear of pain and waiting time were major barriers to utilize services. dalal.m.m@hotmail.com
