Abstract:

Sutures are one of the most important key-step in oral surgery, thanks to a good suture technique we are able to achieve the best healing of a surgical wound. Failing a suture it means to lose the integrity of our biological healing with a higher risk of obtaining a scar. A good suture it helps to create a scaffold for a stable blood clot, it reduces the pain, the postsurgical swelling and the risk of infection, in addition it creates a barrier between the wound and the external environment, thanks to all this qualities we can assert that sutures can give us the possibility of obtaining the best conditions for a correct healing. It’s really important that the oral surgeon knows all the different type of sutures in order to choose the best one for his clinical situation. Sutures can be split into two groups: Basic and advance sutures; the aim of this workshop is to practice on pigs palates / pigs legs, discovering tips and tricks of the most common sutures used in oral surgery and parodontology, in addition the workshop will give some guidelines of when and where to use the different types of knots.

Biography :

Cristian Scognamiglio has completed his degree in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of Insubria (Varese-Italy). He is an international speaker delivering lectures about surgery topics and organizes practical workshops (regarding Suture Techniques and Implant Positioning). He is an author of different scientific papers published on international editorials and congresses. In 2018, thanks to one of his studies, he won the prize as the Best Scientific Research in Oral Surgery issued by the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology.
