Abstract:

The purpose of this contribution is to present the concept of teaching ethics and law to undergraduate dental students within the courses of ?Social medicine & Medical ethics? and ?Public dental health?. The content consists of three main themes, reflecting the basic levels of knowledge: Foundations of ethics: Philosophy and sociology of morality, Definitions and concepts, Social values, human rights and legal regulations, Medical ethics and bioethics, Medical research ethics; Professional ethics: Social traits of the professions, Dentistry as a profession, Ethical system of the physician and the doctor of dental medicine; Ethical principles and social practices, Professional autonomy. Ethical codex of dentists; Ethical standards in dental practice: Moral and legal aspects of professional responsibility, professional standards, informed consent, professional errors and legal liabilities of dentists. The courses are developed with special consideration of the patients? and professionals? diversity at cultural local scale and the evolving mobility at regional and global scale.
