Abstract:

Gummy smile and gingival asymmetry presents a restorative challenge for clinicians attempting to establish impeccable esthetics. Esthetic crown lengthening is performed to reduce excessive soft and hard tissues to establish a harmonious balanced proportion between the teeth and the dento-gingival complex for the desired natural smile. Various classifications have proposed for excessive gingival display to help in diagnosis and treatment planning has been discussed. In addition, esthetic crown lengthening in areas involving natural teeth and dental implants can present a challenge because of the varying biologic width dimensions around the implants and natural teeth. The literature is lacking in providing information for performing these surgical therapies around dental implants. The presentation is designed to address how periodontal esthetic analysis can aid the restorative dentist to obtain a natural harmonious smile with healthy gingival tissues. A practical approach using evidence- based dentistry will be applied to discuss specific periodontal parameters as they relate to the esthetic facial and dental analyses for predictable smile design. Objectives: ? Understand applications for Esthetic Crown Lengthening procedures. ? Understand how to treat short clinical crowns and gummy smile. ? Recognize importance of biologic width. Grasp the benefits of crown lengthening and how it directly impacts better dental health and restorative results. ? Follow a step-by-step restorative approach for esthetic smiles. ? Relate clinical cases to the concepts and practical applications for Clinical Crown Lengthening. ? Coordinate surgery healing with restorative procedures.
