Abstract:

After it was first introduced by the European Market in 1996, the CBCT or Cone Beam Computed tomography developed into an important technology in the clinical daily practice. Knowing how to read and interpret a CBCT is a skill that every dentist should acquire in order to provide patients with the best health care service. While conventional two-dimensional X-rays are sometimes insufficient to establish a certain diagnosis, three-dimensional imaging can confirm the doubts. Whether in preparatory or post operatory uses, the advantages of this 3D radiology system led to CBCT becoming a reference dentists can rely on in their everyday practice. This review will point to the clinical indications of the cone beam with corresponding clinical cases and a short preview of the novelties in this field.
