Camouflage treatment of an adult female patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion: A case report

Abstract:

Objective: To evaluate the skeletal, dentoalveolar and soft tissue changes of a camouflage treatment of an adult female patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion. Case Report: An adult patient aged 21 years old presented to our clinic due to the complaint of crowding in both mandibular and maxillary arches. In her cephalometric examination, skeletal Class III malocclusion (ANB=-4º and Wits=-12 mm) due to maxillary retrusion (SNA=79º) and mandibular protrusion (SNB=83º) and low vertical growth pattern (SN-MP=25º) were observed. Soft tissue examination of the patient showed that upper and lower lips�?? position to S line was normal, while the soft tissue chin was prominent. After describing all treatment options, the patient chose the camouflage treatment option instead of orthognathic surgery and thus maxillary and mandibular first premolars were extracted on the right side to correct the crowding in both arches and mandibular shift to left side. Fixed appliances using .022 inch brackets were used for 16 months and acceptable clinical results were obtained with normal overjet, overbite and intercuspidation. Conclusion: An adult patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion was orthodontically treated with acceptable results in a short time without orthognathic surgery.
