Abstract:

Periodontitis is a group of inflammatory diseases that affect the connective tissue attachment and supporting alveolar bone around the teeth. Periodontal diagnostic procedures should provide information to the clinician regarding the type of periodontal disease present, the location and the severity of the disease. The present periodontal diagnostic parameters incudes: probing depth, clinical attachment level, plaque index and radiographs. Though these diagnostic parameters are easy to use, non-invasive and cost effective, they do not measure the periodontal risk and the current disease status. Today, biomarkers play a great role in diagnosis of periodontal disease and disease monitoring. This presentation aims to focus light on this futuristic diagnosis of periodontal diseases using biomarkers.

Biography :

Prapulla Devi V has completed her Post-graduation in Periodontics from the Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore, India. She is an Associate Professor in Subbaiah Dental College and Research Institute. She has published many papers in reputed international journals. She is the author of a chapter on “Plaque Biofilm” in a textbook dedicated to gingival and periodontal diseases. She is serving as an Editorial Board Member of reputed journals.
