Biography

Tahir M. Nisar is Associate Professor of Management at the University of Southampton. Professor Nisar did his studies at Cambridge University and the London School of Economics. He has recently worked on companies’ practice of intellectual property rights and how they can raise funds from banks and other financial institutions on the back of these rights. A good example of these practices is intellectual property securitization which has recently allowed large companies such as Domino’s, Hertz and others to use their brands and operating frameworks and raise substantial amounts of funds at lower market rates. Companies may also pay lower taxes in jurisdictions where it can be shown that the business involves a proprietary business model or format. Professor Nisar is currently researching other types of revenue generation models of intellectual property rights using both quantitative and qualitative methods. He has also recently investigated multi-innovation environments in the high technology industry and developed principles for understanding the role of patents and licenses in creating more collaborative arrangements between key stakeholders and markets players.
