Biography

Research assistant at the Department of Haematology, Oncology and Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Unit of Microbiology, St. Orsola Malpighi General Hospital, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy since 1997 and employee of the Italian Ministry of Education as High School teacher since september 2007. Her work focuses on human cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, mainly analysing CMV genes involved in viral pathogenesis. Main topics explored: biochemical and molecular characterisation of ORF UL53 and its interaction with the product of gene UL50; analysis of CMV polymorphisms at loci encoding for envelope glycoproteins, such as UL73-gN, UL55-gB and UL74-gO; association between specific genomic variants at the above mentioned loci and CMV-induced immunopathogenesis, analysed in different patient populations affected by CMV disease.

Research Interest

Her research approach, based on the main molecular biology techniques has been applied on the fields of cardiovascular syndromes, cancer research, microbiology and virology topics.
