Biography

Dr. Sangeeta Singg is a Licensed Psychologist, Applied Clinical Nutritionist, and a Professor of Psychology at the Angelo State University (ASU) where she started the graduate counseling psychology program and served as the Program Director for nearly three decades. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Health and Counseling Psychology.

In addition to her work at ASU, she is currently serving on the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a Governor of Texas’ appointee and on the MHMR Services for Concho Valley Board as a board trustee. In 2021, she was recognized for her outstanding service to her university, profession, community, and society by the ASU President’s Award for Excellence in Leadership and service.

From 2010-2020, she served as the president of the Psychological Association of Greater West Texas (PAGWT). In October 2019, she received the “Top Honors with an Award of Meritorious Service for Ten Years” from PAGWT. Another prestigious award in February 2019 came from the Three Rivers Counseling Association for her “Outstanding Contribution to the Counseling Profession.” ­

Some of the other notable professional awards are ASU’s Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award, Outstanding Leadership in Psychology Award by PAGWT, Phi Delta Kappa Research Award, and Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Ambassador Award. She has served on numerous other local and national boards of directors such as Tom Green County Division of the American Heart Association (AHA), San Angelo AIDS Foundation, MHMR–Respite Care Providers, Concho Valley Chapter for Autistic Youth, Concho Valley Rape Crisis Center, and Tom Green County Community Action Council, and Bethphage (Mosaic) Foundation. Serving on the AHA board for 35 years, four times as the Board President, she received recognition for her service for over 30 years, was named as the Go Red Ambassador in 2009, and received the “Regional Volunteer of the year” award in 2003. She is also an avid researcher with 45 publications and 122 presentations to date.  Dr. Singg has directed 78 master’s theses to completion. In her city, San Angelo Business & Professional Women’s Club named her as the “San Angelo Woman to Watch.” In 2020, Nexstar Media named her as a “Remarkable Woman of Concho Valley” in their nationwide initiative to honor women who had influenced public policy, social progress and quality of life.

Research Interest

Dr. Singg’s research interests are diverse and interdisciplinary including post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, zoophilia, childhood sexual abuse, memory, cardiovascular disease, alternative methods of healing, grief, suicide, energy medicine, student personal responsibility, self-esteem, color preference and color therapy, and role of nutrition in physical and psychological wellness.
