Biography

Reiko Aoki is Professor at Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo and Faculty Fellow at Research Institute for Economics, Trade and Industry. Her research interests include patents, patent pools, standards, innovation, science and technology policy and intergenerational political economy. She has investigated how patent law, such as research exemption and utility requirement will effect incentive to innovate and the interaction between patent pools and evolution of technical standards. She has been involved in public policy in Japan thru reports for the Japan Patent Office and as Executive Member of Council for Science and Technology Policy. She is also a founding member and board member of Asia Pacific Innovation Network. She received her BS in mathematics from University of Tokyo and PhD in economics from Stanford University.
