Biography

Dr. Watabe is a Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology Immunology and Cell Biology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  He received his PhD from Kyoto University in 1981 and did postdoctoral training at the University of Arizona Health Science Center. He then joined Southern Illinois University as a faculty member in 1985.  He also served as Associate Director of Basic Science at SIU Cancer Institute. His current research focuses on tumor metastasis cancer stem cells and tumor microenvironment. He has served on many national and international grant review panels including NIH and DOD and is on the editorial boards of several international journals.
