Biography

Dr. Jun (Luke) Huan is an Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Kansas. He is an affiliated member of the KU Information and Telecommunication Technology Center (ITTC), Bioinformatics Center, and Bioengineering Program. Dr. Huan received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006 (with Wei Wang, Jan Prins, and Alexander Tropsha). Before joining KU in 2006, he worked at the Argonne National Laboratory (with Ross Overbeek) and the GlaxoSmithKline plc. (with Nicolas Guex). Dr. Huan was a recipient of the NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2009. He has published more than 60 papers in peer reviewed journal and conferences. His group won the best student paper award in 2011 IEEE International Conference on Data Mining and the best paper award (runner-up) in the ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management in 2009. Dr. Huan serves on the editorial or advisory board of several leading journals including the International Journal of Data Mining and Bioinformatics, the American Journal of Bioinformatics, and the Journal of Combinatorial Chemistry and High Throughput Screening.

Research Interest

Computational chemical biology, pharmacogenomics, population genetics and human genetics, data mining, machine learning and statistical learning.
