Biography

 Doctor Johan K. M. Aps is currently (2013) Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington, in Seattle, USA. He works at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Department of Oral Medicine. He obtained his dental degree at Ghent University in Belgium in 1993. Subsequently he received his MSc in Pediatric Dentistry and his PhD at the same university in 1997 and 2002 respectively. In 2008 Dr. Aps graduated with a MSc in dental and maxillofacial radiology at the University of London in the UK. He used to work at the University of Ghent from October 1993 till July 2012. In July 2012 he was recruited by the University of Washington. De. Aps teaches oral and maxillofacial radiology and local anesthesia to both under- and postgraduate dental students at the University of Washington.
He is author of several scientific papers, congress abstracts and lectures a lot on his favorite topics in dentistry; oral radiology, radio-anatomy, radiation protection, intra-osseous anesthesia in dentistry and local anesthesia in general. He is also reviewer for several scientific journals and member of the board of editors of peer-reviewed dental journals. He is editor in chief of ‘Het Tandheelkundig Jaar’ (Dutch-Flemish dentists).
