Anupam Bishayee
Associate Professor
American University of Health Sciences, USA
Dr. Bishayee has 25 years combined experience in pharmaceutical education, research, teaching, and administration. Before joining American University of Health Sciences (Signal Hill, CA) as Founding Chair and Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Bishayee served as a charter faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy and Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine at the Northeast Ohio Medical University (Rootstown, OH).
Dr. Bishayee’s research focuses on elucidation of the cancer preventive and therapeutic effects of medicinal plants, natural products, dietary and synthetic agents using various pre-clinical models of cancer. His laboratory is currently involved in examining chemopreventive and therapeutic potential of various dietary agents, including grape polyphenols (such as resveratrol), pomegranate phytoconstituents, berry anthocyanins and other natural products as well as various novel synthetic agents in breast and liver cancer. His research group is also assessing the possibility of targeting various cell signaling pathways, including nuclear factor E2-related factor 2, nuclear factor-kappaB, and Wnt/beta-catenin pathway, to achieve chemoprevention and therapy of several neoplastic diseases. The ongoing projects of Dr. Bishayee are funded by the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health as well as private pharmaceutical/biotechnological institutions.
Dr. Bishayee has published 95 original research papers and review articles in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, such as Biochemical Pharmacology, Cancer Prevention Research, Carcinogenesis, Current Cancer Drug Targets, Cancer Letters, Pharmaceutical Research, and International Journal of Cancer, 10 book chapters, and presented over 25 papers at various national and international scientific meetings. Dr. Bishayee served as special theme-issue guest editor for the Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Currant Cancer Drug Targets. Dr. Bishayee is the Associate Editor-in-Chief of World Journal of Gastroenterology and Associate Editor of BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine. He is also currently serving as an editorial board member of several reputed journals, including Anti-Cancer Drugs, American Journal of Cancer Science, Chemoprevention, Journal of Carcinogenesis and Mutagenesis and World Journal of Hepatology, and ad-hoc reviewer of more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Nature Reviews. Dr. Bishayee has received several research awards, including “Young Investigator” award (Indo-American Society of Nuclear Medicine and Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland), “Younger Scientist” award (National Science Council, Canada and Indian Chemical Society), as well as “most cited”, “most accessed” and “high-impact” articles in Cancer Prevention Research, Molecular Nutrition and Food Research and World Journal of Hepatology, respectively. He is an active member of various organizations devoted to scientific research and pharmacy education.
