Biography

Antonio Russo received his MD from the University Medical School of Palermo Italy in 1982.  His postgraduate specialty were Medical Oncology and Medical Genetic Since 2006 he is professor of Medical Oncology and Chief of the Medical Genetic and Molecular Oncology Unit at University Medical School of Palermo.  Since 2004 he is Adjunct Associate Professor at Temple University College of Science and Technology Philadelphia USA In 2001 he coordinated with Prof D Kerr University of Oxford UK and Prof.  B Iacopetta Western Australia University the “CRCP53 International Collaborative Study” . Since 2003 he is Expert member of INSERM Institut National de la Santè et de la Recherche Mèdical France. Since 2007 he is Expert member of the INCA Institut National du Cancer France Scientific Committee and Expert member of NWCRF North West Cancer Research Fund UK . He has been Guest Editor of the following toprated journals: Annals of Oncology Oncology and Cancer Treatment Reviews. The central theme of his studies is translational research meaning the application of molecular genetics in the diagnosis and treatment of solid malignancies. He is author of more than 200 publications in toprated cancer journal and serves as Journal Referee for the following journals: Cancer Gastroenterology , Cancer Research Human Pathology,  Clinical Cancer Research Oncogene, Journal of Pathology Annals of Oncology,  British Jornal of Cancer Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology and Cancer Biology Therapy.

Research Interest

Prognostic and predictive biomolecular markers.Molecular genetics of hereditary and familial tumors, especially those of the breast/ovarian and of the gastroenteric tract Detection of tumor cells in peripheral blood and lymph nodes of patients with solid tumors. Analysis of gene expression by microarray in solid tumors. Role of the MicroRNA and epigenetic profile in solid tumors.
