Simon Daefler

Simon Daefler
Professor, Department of Infectious Diseases
Mount Sinai School of Medicine, USA

Simon Daefler is a Professor of medicine at department of infectious diseases, Mount Sinai School of Medicine laboratory of systems biology in infectious diseases, New York, USA.

Research Interest

Dr. Simon Daefler research interests are focused on two intracellular pathogens, salmonella and francisella. His work with these pathogens dissects out intracellular host pathogen interactions that allow survival of the organism within key target cells including the macrophage and heptocate. These pathogens are important subjects of study both because of their impact on world health and their potential use as a tool for bioterrorism. Dr. Daefler is Executive Director of the Biosafety Laboratory Level 3+ (BSL3+) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He also has extensive experience as an educator and mentor.

Felix M Munkonge

Felix M Munkonge
Department of Gene Therapy, National Heart & Lung Institute (NHLI), Imperial College London
London, United Kingdom

Felix Munkonge is currently a Research Fellow Lecturer in the Department of Gene Therapy at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, UK. He earned his PhD at Kings College (KQC), University of London, UK. He has published 37 Reviewed papers, and has contributed to 2 book chapters. He has teaching experience of more than 14 years. He is a reviewer for the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and an editorial board member of the Journal of Data Mining in Genomics & Proteomics. He is a Fellow of the Society of Biologists and member of the UK Biochemical Society. He served as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in the area of cell biology, biochemistry and proteomics.

Research Interest

His expertise is in the cellular molecular biology of gene transfer to the polarized epithelial cell. Most specifically, his current research is focused on the intracellular fate of plasmid DNA following gene transfer of the human airway epithelial cell using live-cell, real-time fluorescence imaging techniques and electron microscopy.
