Biography
Saikat Talapatra is currently working as an Associate professor in the Physics Department at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), USA. He has received his MS from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India and Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). After receiving his Ph.D. from SIUC (in December 2002, under the supervision of Prof. A. D. Migone), he moved on to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, for a Post-doctoral position (with Prof. P. M. Ajayan). In January 2007, he came back to the Department of Physics at SIUC as an Assistant Professor in Physics.  He has published more than 50 research articles in various prestigious journals. He has been invited to speak at more than 20 national and international conferences.      
Research Interest
Saikat’s research interests encompasses the broad field of nanomaterials and applied nanotechnology. Specifically, his groups' research focus is on growth, characterization and applications (mainly in the field of energy and the environment) of carbon based nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene.
