Maxine J McCall

Biography

Maxine J McCall is a University-qualified senior research scientist and consultant with extensive expertise across chemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, nanotechnologies and nanosafety. She has led large teams of multi-disciplinary research scientists, and liaised with Government agencies and private companies, nationally and internationally, to deliver peer-reviewed publications, commissioned reports, and commercialisable technologies. Successful outcomes have been achieved by following three guiding principles: have respect for all colleagues, use effective communication, and be practical. She is currently working as a Nanosafety Coordinator and Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO. She has developed RNA-DNA hybrid catalysts as therapeutics to cleave deleterious RNA; developed micro-arrays containing modified DNA probes that diminish mis-pairing with target DNA; developed methods for attaching synthetic DNA to carbon nanotubes and other nanoparticles for directed self-assembly of nanomaterials into functional devices; Coordinator of CSIRO's Nanosafety research program. She has published many resaerch articles in various national and international scientific journals.
