Biography
Dr Gilberto K. K. Leung is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, and an Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He graduated from the Medical College of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London, in 1992, received post-graduate surgical training in the U.K., Hong Kong and the U.S., and was awarded the Hallett Gold Medal (F.R.C.S.(London)) and the J. Douglas Miller Medal in Neurosurgery. After working in the Hong Kong Hospital Authority for 10 years, he joined the University of Hong Kong in 2005, obtained the Master of Surgery degree and the Faculty Teaching Medal in 2009, and a PhD degree in 2014. Within his Faculty, he serves as an Assistant Dean and the Division Chief of Neurosurgery at the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital. He is the Director of the Centre of Education and Training of his department, the Director of Trauma Service of his hospital, and the Programme Director of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Course of the China-Hong Kong Chapter, American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Neurosurgery Board of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong, and a Council Member of the Hong Kong Neurosurgical Society, the Asian Surgical Association, and the Hong Kong Neuro-Oncology Society.. He supervises research postgraduate students, and is an active researcher in clinical trials, translational laboratory work and medical education. He has authored/co-authored 8 book chapters, 119 refereed journal articles, 30 other publications, 105 conference papers, and has delivered 78 invited lectures.

Dr Gilberto’s areas of research interests include neuro-oncology, pituitary and endoscopic surgery, neurotrauma, neuroregenerative therapy, Nanomedicine, Nanoparticles, Nanomaterial  and medical education
