Research Interest
Instrumental analysis of biochemical substances, drug formulations, environmental samples, and high-technology materials. Photoacoustic spectroscopy, laser ablation time-of-flight mass spectrometry, surface plasmon resonance biosensors, capillary electrophoresis and electrochromatography are the major techniques facilitating our research program. New electrochemical, optical and photochemical phenomena are designed into analytical methods for enhanced sensitivity and selectivity. Current projects challenge the development of laser desorption ionization of smart materials for time-of-flight mass spectrometric analysis, the detection of mycotoxins and allergenic proteins in food by surface plasmon resonance immunoassay, and the combinatorial study of binding interactions with molecularly imprinted polymers in capillary columns for rapid screening of drugs. A new project is developing microanalytical instrumentation technology to incorporate self-assembled monolayers and electropolymerized thin films for adsorptive detection of toxic metals and biomolecules.
