Castro-Alves is a doctoral student at the University of São Paulo where he studies the structure of polysaccharides from foods, and how these fungal- and plant-derived polysaccharides interact with macrophages and foam cells.
He was a fellow at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Cellular Toxicology (2009-2010) at Federal University of Ceará with the supervision of Dr. Kalyne Leal, where he studied the anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive and brochodilatador potential of natural products on animals and human cells. For these studies, he has won an award in the XXV Annual Meeting of Experimental Biology Societies Federation. He also was a fellow at Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (2011). There he studied the volatile and sensory profile of tropical fruits. He has finished his master degrre in Food Science at the University of São Paulo (2012-2014) under supervision of Dr. Beatriz Cordenunsi, where he studies the effects of biodiveristy on banana phisiology.
