Our lab investigate the role of adrenergic, cholinergic and NANC systems on activity of visceral and vascular smooth muscle of the Urinary Tract, using as experimental models different domestic species (pig, sheep and horse), as well as, human samples. Such studies were designed to investigate the physiological mechanisms involved in the urine boli transport throughout the ureter and its discharge into urinary bladder, as well as, in the filling and voiding of urinary bladder. All these studies were performed using in vitro techniques to isometric force recordings (Immunohistochemistry, western blot, enzymatic endogenous production measurement, myographs, electrical field stimulation, intracellular Ca2+ concentration and tension simultaneous measurement…).
Autonomic Nervous System regulation of urinary bladder in physiologic and pathophysiologic (obesity and ischemia) models.
