Biography

My primary research interest is to understand how neural stem cell proliferation and differentiation are regulated during embryonic and postnatal development. I use mouse genetics in combination with molecular and cellular biological approaches to uncover key molecules that are vital for neural stem cell functions. Current projects emphasize on studying neural progenitor response to brain injury such as stroke, a process that has been implicated in repair and functional recovery. I am particularly interested in how neural stem cell functions are regulated after stroke and how the adult neuroplasticity leads to functional recovery. The ongoing study will yield a comprehensive understanding of how adult neural progenitors are regulated during both physiologic as well as pathologic conditions, and this understanding might shed light on revealing mechanisms for brain repairs after stroke and developing new molecular therapies for stroke recovery.
