Hassan Y. Aboul-Enein was born in Cairo ,Egypt in 1943 and graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University with a Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Sciences, He was awarded his Master degree (MSc) and doctoral degree (PhD) from The University of Mississippi, Oxford,Mississippi,USA in 1969 and 1971 respectively. Professor Aboul-Enein is currently a Professor Emeritus, Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, National Research Centre, Dokki, Cairo 12311, Egypt since 2006. He also worked as a Visiting Professor in several universities including the University of Sydney, Chemistry Department, University of Nebraska Nebraska, USA , Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt., Universiti Sains Malaysia ,Penang,Malaysia , Shandong University, P.R. of China, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johar Bahru, Malaysia, Ankara University, Ankara, Turkey ,Mahatma Ghandi University, Institute for Research in Basic Sciences (IIRBS), Kottayam, India and Bechar University ,Bechar ,Algeria among others. He worked at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as the Head of Bioanalytical and Drug Development Laboratory from 1985-2006. He was appointed as an Associate Professor at the College of Pharmacy, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1976 and promoted to Professor in 1980. In 1975 he was the section head, Hypertension Team, Biological Research & Development Department, USV Pharmaceutical Corp., Tuckahoe, NY 10707, USA. From 1973 to 1975 he joined The Toxicology Center, Department of Pharmacology, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, 52242, USA as a Research Assistant Professor. In 1971-1973 he was Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University of Alabama in Birmingham, School of Medicine, Birmingham 35294, AL, USA. Professor Aboul-Enein received several honors and awards including Mead Johnson Fellowship (USA); 1971-1973: NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism (USA); 1982: Matasumae International Foundation; Fellowship (Japan); 1982: Abdul Hamid Showman Foundation Award for Medicinal Sciences (Jordan)1998: The 20th Century Award for Achievements (UK), Jabber ibn Hayan Award in Chemistry ,King Saud University, Riyadh ,Saudi Arabia (2005). Khwarizmi International Award (Applied Sciences)-UNESCO, Tehran, Iran (2008)., Elsevier Scopus Award for the most cited scientist in Chemistry 2008. Nominated to Mahatir Mohammed Award in Biomedical Science in 2009 Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia 2010. He took part in several research projects in Egypt, Turkey, Romania, Malaysia, USA, China, Algeria and Sudan dealing with pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis, environmental analysis , natural products research and application of spectroscopy (FTIR) in clinical diagnosis and analysis. He is the author and co-author of more than 1000 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed professional journals. More than 350 scientific presentations in symposia and conferences, eight books including: The Impact of Stereochemistry on Drug Development and Use, John Wiley & Sons, 1997; (2) Analytical and Preparative Separation Methods of Biomacromolecules, Marcel Dekker, Inc. 1998; Nanochromatography and Nanocapillary electrophoresis :Applications to pharmaceutical and environmental analysis, John Wiley &Sons,NY,USA,2009. He also published more than 89 reviews and wrote more than 52 book chapters. He has been an Editorial Board Member on 24 peer reviewed scientific journals among which: are Chirality (USA), Accreditation and Quality Assurance (Germany), Journal of Liquid Chromatography and Related Technologies (USA), Luminescence (UK), Critical Reviews in Analytical Chemistry (USA), Analytical Chimica Acta (USA), Archiv der Pharmazie (Germany), Chromatographia (Germany), Biomedical Chromatography (UK), Biosensors and Bioelectronics (UK), Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy (USA), Journal Separation Sciences (USA) , Current Drug Therapy -Associate Editor (Bentham Science Publisher), Current Chromatography- Associate Editor- (Bentham Science Publisher) , Associate Editor: Journal of Chromatographic Science, Oxford University Press, Oxford ,UK, Assistant Editor: Analytical Letters (USA). He also served on the WHO-UN Expert Advisory Panel on the International Pharmacopoeia and Pharmaceutical Preparations. He is also a Board Member at the Selection Committee and Scientific Council of the Egyptian Center for the Advancement of Science , Technology and Innovation (ECASTI) 2014- present. He is a member of several honorary and professional societies.
Professor Aboul-Enein main research interests include: - Pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis of drugs in bulk, pharmaceutical formulations , biological fluids and newly developed pharmaceutical formulations. - Chiral chromatography including molecular recognition in separation processes and method developments for analytical separations. - Retention mechanisms in chromatograph, and development of new stationary phases. - Synthesis of biological active agents, specifically fluorinated medicinals. - Construction and development of sensors and biosensors for the analysis of pharmaceuticals , pesticides , environmental pollutants and biological active compounds with emphasis on chiral molecules.
