Deepti received her PhD (2013) in stem cell biology from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) studying (epi)genetic co-regulation during cardiomyocyte differentiation from stem cells (ES/iPSC). Her postdoctoral work at St Jude Children's Research Hospital (2013-15) were focused around identifying genes and understanding developmental mechanisms involved with neuroretina, forebrain and hepatocyte development using 3D stem cell (iPSC) organoid approach. She has also worked on several industry oriented collaborations with Life Technologies (Invitrogen) and Ranbaxy. At present (May 2015-), she is continuing her postdoctoral studies at UPenn, where she is interested in studying and establishing hiPSC-organoid based hepatocyte as a model for lipoprotein metabolism and high throughput screening.
She is interested in studying development and disease modeling using stem cells (mouse and human ESC/iPSC) as a model system, with emphasis on its manipulation by bioengineering approaches. She has an expertise in derivation and differentiation of ESC, iPSC in 2D and 3D set up to multiple lineages and their manipulation by CRISPR and other cell biological assays.
