Abstract:

The use of virtual surgical planning has revolutionized the process of preparing for complex surgical procedures. It allows for a 3 dimensional view of the proposed surgical movements and reconstructive possibilities. This new perspective has increased surgical accuracy and improved patient outcomes. The presentation will demonstrate and review: The process of virtual surgery as it relates to the maxillofacial region; and it will show the flexibility and usefulness of digital planning for various surgical procedures in a 3 dimensional manner. It will be an opportunity to provide insight into maxillofacial reconstruction in our digital age.

Biography :

Vincent Carrao has received his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University, USA. He continued his education at Columbia University, School of Dental and Oral Surgery where he obtained a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1993. His desire to become a surgeon led him to acceptance into Columbia Presbyterian’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program. As part of this 6-year training program he received a Medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. In solidification of his Medical degree, he also completed 1-year of General Surgery training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. After completing surgical training, he entered into private practice and obtained hospital privileges at both New York Presbyterian Hospital and Holy Name Hospital. He became an Assistant Clinical Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University establishing himself as an integral part of the residency training program. He was appointed as the Associate Program Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University, New York Presbyterian Hospital and then ultimately recruited to serve as Chief of the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
