Abstract:

Facial trauma presents as a spectrum of cases from a simple undisplaced fracture to a panfacial trauma with complete loss of facial structure. All components of facial trauma need to be taken into consideration with proper planning and execution. Occlusion, facial width, height, symmetry and anteroposterior projection, associated vital structures such as the eye are some of the considerations. In accordance of principles of osteosynthesis and with the advent of newer titanium miniplates and microplates, management of complex facial trauma has become less challenging than before. Virtual planning and 3d printing has further eased the job of a maxillofacial surgeon. Lastly, management and knowledge of secondary sequelae of trauma is an equally important arrow in the quiver of a trauma Dr .
