The effects of being exposed to cyberbullying factors in high school students

Abstract:

Purpose: The primary purpose of this study is analyzing the impacts of cyberbullying exposure in high school students with its effects on the students. Materials and Methods: This research has been conducted with randomly selected 516 volunteering high school students from three different schools in Sisli, Istanbul. This number (516 students) covers %41, 8 of the total students of the three schools. The data in this study has been collected by using the Personal Information Form, Cyber Victimization Scale and the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale. This study is a descriptive survey model in 2015-2016 academic years. The collected data has been analyzed on SPSS program. The distributions of frequency and percentage have been shown in tables and correlation test has been applied between scales. Findings: It has been determined that the average point of cyber victimization is 27,40+4,15. The average point of self-esteem is 21,11+5,81. The average point of cyber victimization of the students who live with their parents is lower than that of the students who correspond with people whom they don't know, who use a password on their cell phones, who answer unknown calls and who make video calls with unknown people. It has been observed that there is a negative correlation between the cyber victimization points and the self-esteem points. (r=-0,136, p=,00) Results: It is suggested that adolescents who have a high risk of cyber victimization, who don't get enough support from their parents should be closely observed by the nurses working at their school. It is also recommended that such students should receive training and consultancy about not corresponding with unfamiliar people or not to answer the calls from hidden numbers.
