Abstract:

Pharmacogenomics deals with the influence of genetic variation on drug response and aims at effective - safe medication to targeted patients with appropriate geno types. In one way it plays a pivotal role in reducing incidence of poly pharmacy thereby minimizing the occurrence of Adverse Drug Reactions. Pharmacogenomics tailored drug therapies thus came into arena to minimize such drug events. On the other hand the advent of ?personalized medicine? appends the need of pharmacogenomics. Being a predictive tool, it deviates ?one -dose- fits-all? approach and enables better treatment out comes. Specific study like GWAS (Genome Wide Association Studies) in association with proteomics and genomics aids in determination of various drug events and drug induced toxicities.
