Abstract:

The aim of the workshop is to conduct an interactive course exploring the location of major anatomical structures in the head and neck. Since it focuses primarily on the most important areas currently required in the field of dentistry, some of the topics to be covered include the normal anatomy of clinically significant cranial landmarks, foramina and grooves in the skull, facial bones, maxillary sinuses, temporomandibular joint, salivary glands, masticatory muscles, significant vessels and nerves. The course is mainly intended for all healthcare and associated professionals such as dentists, maxillofacial surgeons, radiologists, oral implantologists, and specialists of prosthetic dentistry, orthodontists, periodontists and plastic surgeons. Course attempts to give a minimum comprehensive overview of head-neck anatomy and will give attendees some very good insights into the field of dentistry, designed to enhance their ability to interpret CT, MRI and CBCT scans. Case-based, tutorial and workshop teaching format will provide the participants with a comprehensive knowledge of normal cross sectional human anatomy of the head and neck, clinical relationship and correlation, emphasizing relevant surgical anatomy. The lecture mainly outlines head and neck anatomy topics and attendees can undertake pre-course review and reading if desired. Participants will have many opportunities for the queries and review with the lecturer about the sections of certain cases, and there will be interactive tutorials where participants can test their knowledge of head and neck anatomy.

Biography :

Huseyin Avni Balcioglu is an Associate Professor in Department of Anatomy at Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry. After receiving his Dental degree at Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry, in 2001, he worked as a Research Assistant in Department of Anatomy, for five years, and completed his PhD. He is currently a member of the Board of Medical Specialties Reporting System Commission of Turkish Ministry of Health.
