Enteral nutrition begins when the oral intake is inadequate to meet their requirements or conditions in which the patient could not consume food through the mouth. There are various enteral feeding techniques are practicing depends on the disease condition and requirement of the patient. Usually intragastric feeding method is preferred to post pyloric delivery of nutrition and intermittent feeding is preferred to continuous feeding because it is physiological. Bolus feedings are given for short period at specific time intervals using a syringe or gravity flow. Feed variance depends on the child???s age, and tolerance. Bolus feeding is physiological and imitate normal feeding. Continuous feedings are delivered by using a pump at constant rate of infusion over an established number of hours during the day and night. Critically ill patients had better tolerate continuous infusions over 24 hours. Enteral feeding rates and advancement of enteral feedings are based on patient age and body weight.
