Passive and active repositioning of a traumatically intruded immature permanent incisor: 5-year follow up

Abstract:

This case presents a novel method for management of an intruded permanent maxillary central incisor with immature apex. �??Wait and watch�?? for �??spontaneous re-eruption�?? was chosen as a treatment option. A palatal gingivectomy was performed and endodontic access was established, following which an intracanal medicament of calcium hydroxide was applied. Root canal treatment was completed, and apexification with mineral trioxide aggregate was done. The tooth showed no improvement of re-eruption, afterwards, complete repositioning was obtained with the aid of orthodontic treatment for two months. 5-year follow up showed successful clinical healing and absence of periradicular radiolucency. The present case shows the possibility of obtaining partial re-eruption of severely intruded immature permanent teeth with interim use of medication in the root canal. Also, it illustrates complete re-eruption with the aid of timely orthodontic repositioning after apexification.
