We retrospectively reviewed the EMRs of 84 patients that presented with a documented diagnosis of lymphoma to the orthopedic oncology departments of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center from 1999- 2015. The inclusion criteria consisted of a documented medical history of lymphoma or subsequent diagnosis of lymphoma of bone, soft tissue, or both following diagnostic tests. The exclusion criteria consisted of an absence of a documented diagnosis of lymphoma. We also reviewed patientsâ?? imaging studies such X-rays, CT-scans, MRI, and PET/CT. Other variables recorded were the patientsâ?? sex, race, site of neoplasm, bone involvement, soft tissue involvement, chief complaint, contributing factors, date of onset of symptoms, blood panel, bone scans, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy regiments, full list of medication, age at diagnosis, date of diagnosis, and lymphoma staging. Among the results recorded was the fact that 50 patients (59.52%) presented with a chief complaint of pain. The most prevalent lymphoma subtype was diffuse large B cell lymphoma (42 patients, 50.00%). The time elapsed since the debut of symptoms to final diagnosis ranged from 9 days to 4 years with an average of 7.99 months. The radiological findings consisted of calcifications, osteolytic lesions and varying degrees soft tissue invasion. The purpose of this study is to present the main characteristics of patients that present with lymphoma to orthopedic departments in hopes of avoiding unnecessary test procedures that lead to delays in diagnosis and treatment.
